Anxiety
Is treated through the reframing and challenging of negative self-talk, learning radical acceptance, teaching assertive communication skills, learning to de catastrophize and questioning the oppressive systems that aggravate anxiety in folks of othered communities.
Depression
Is treated by identifying cognitive distortions and learning coping skills to combat said cognitive distortions. A holistic treatment that integrates the physical and mental aspects that can lead to depression is highly suggested upon the first session. The oppressive systems that folks internalize that aggravate depression are always taken into consideration.
Trauma
Is treated by first establishing a foundation of coping skills that can be used during trauma work. Trauma work is intensive, and as the cliché goes it’s always darkest before dawn. Additionally, trauma is treated through a combination of bibliotherapy, walk and talk therapy, and narrative writing therapy. EMDR will soon be added to the list of treatment modalities.
Social Anxiety
Is treated by unlearning the cognitive distortions of jumping to conclusions, mind reading, catastrophizing, emotional reasoning, and all or nothing thinking. Situations a person from an othered community would find themselves socially anxious to begin with are also addressed and taken into consideration.
Adulthood life transitions
Is a stressor that folks in their early 20’s (and some in there 30’s, 40’s, and beyond) commonly experience. Navigating the transition from adolescence to adulthood is treated through a combination of bibliotherapy, teaching practical skills, and traditional talk therapy.
Anti Racist Work
From helping BIPOC folks dismantle internalized racism, to helping White folks on their paths to allyship, Amalia is dedicated to helping decolonize the minds and bodies of all people. Amalia uses a combination of pre-programmed presentations, as well as biblio-therapy to navigate the delicate waters of Anti-Racist Work.
