Professional Counselor Associate
Amalia Cardozo is a gender fluid, queer Latina who immigrated to the U.S. from Venezuela at the age of 4. Amalia began her academic career at University of Hawaii at Manoa, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Religious Studies. Amalia still uses her knowledge of world religions to inform her therapy.
While studying at UH, Amalia co authored “Positive Implication for Sexual Sensation Seeking: An Exploratory Study”. Contributing to this project sparked Amalia’s passion for inclusion of a safe space for sex positivy in her therapy practice. Amalia then went on to earn her Masters in Counseling at Chicago State University. While at Chicago State University Amalia earned a spot in the honor’s society, Chi Sigma Iota., for academic excellence.
Amalia graduated from CSU in 2017 and has had experience in multiple non-profit organizations. While working for these non-profits Amalia noticed that there was either space for inclusion of LGTBQ+ populations, or for BIPOC populations; but rarely for both. This is when Amalia decided to open Serenity Counseling with Amalia. As a queer Latina herself, Amalia strives to hold space for all identities a person holds.
Additionally, Amalia has heard time and time again how her clients’ have wished they had learned the coping skills Amalia teaches in therapy earlier in life. As an answer to these comments, Amalia has started a series of chapter books for kids called Magical Minds. Click here to learn more about them.
